Strictly and Merlin all in one night - that's kind of a marathon viewing session.



Strictly first:

• Didn't really miss Arlene, but Alesha didn't actually contribute any more than I could have done with my 'leet dance knowledge' (hah!). Would've preferred Karen Hardy in her place. That said, the judging panel dynamic seemed a lot less tetchy than it did last year (though it's still early days) so maybe it'll work out okay.


• Chris - now he's one to watch. That rumba really impressed me. For a start, I actually stayed awake during it! (Rumba = not-my-favourite-dance-ever)Was already thinking that Chris and Ola reminded me of Hobbits when one of the judges (Bruno?) said the self-same thing. Am now imagining a Middle-earth version of Strictly, with Tess drooling over Glorfindel and Sam being so utterly adorkable that he stays in forever even though he can't dance and Craig is pronouncing him D-U-L-L and also hitting on Legolas: "Fab-u-lous, darling!" (Craig did rather overdo the "darlings" Friday/Saturday - was he trying to parody himself?) Alesha would make profound comments about Treebeard's dancing: "He's wearing PINK!" And Len would outrage the GBP by declaring that Galadriel's dancing was like a turkey without the stuffing. No, I haven't given this much thought at all.


• Ali seems very sweet. Jade has bags of personality. Rick is a bit like Todd Carty on Dancing on Ice. Without the ice. Obviously.

Merlin

• We seemed to have rebooted the Arthur-Merlin relationship back to Series 1 rather than continued where it left off, which made me a bit "What the ..."


• You'd think by now that when Gaius utters a dramatic warning about Bad Things About To Happen because of the Magical Toetails of Voldemort (whatever) being unearthed that Uther would pay attention. Y'know, on account of the Bad Things That Happened Last Time Gaius uttered a dramatic warning. And the time before that. But no. Gaius = Cassandra.


• Gwen - oh pretty! And Arthur has noticed. Oh yes.


• Morgana. Not enough of.


• Merlin - facing the temptation of Darth Vader, the One Ring, that-pirate-from-The-Office. Did he fall to the Dark Side? Like whoa he did not!


• Uther - upping the ante on hunting down Bad Magic (as in All Magic. So he has learnt a lesson from Cassandra's Dire Warnings. Only, sadly, it was the wrong one.
