My dad died unexpectedly on 9th May. Heart failure while he slept. He went to bed and ... just never woke up.
Been a difficult time for all of us. Still is. Funeral next Thursday. Some of you know me in RL, and you've been through this yourselves, so yeah. You know how it is.

Date: 2011-05-20 08:58 pm (UTC)Dad had a lot of health problems, including heart, but had seemed really well recently. My sister and I saw him the day before it happened (we went round every couple of weeks or so to clean the house for him) and he was fine. We left him sitting in his favourite chair with a selection of brochures, planning holidays. (He loved planning holidays so I know where I get that trait from.) My sister, brother-in-law and myself found him, so, yes, we know it was a very peaceful passing. He just looked like he was asleep. I think he went the way he would've wanted. Which ... will be a comfort in due time.

Date: 2011-07-30 04:54 am (UTC)You did tell me this by email, but again - I'm so sorry. And I'm glad that if it had to happen, it was peaceful. My dad was sick for months with pancreatic cancer and ended in a palliative care unit just after Christmas. I wish he could have gone as peacefully as yours did, but losing a parent is nevr good. :-( Give my love to your Mum.
