My dad died unexpectedly on 9th May. Heart failure while he slept. He went to bed and ... just never woke up.

Been a difficult time for all of us. Still is. Funeral next Thursday. Some of you know me in RL, and you've been through this yourselves, so yeah. You know how it is.

Oh Jackie, I'm so sorry, I really am; I'm sending you all my love and best wishes, and wishing all the best for you and your family. What a dreadful time it must be at the moment. Worse still if there was no indication that your dad was ill. Horrible cliche, I know, but at least he didn't feel any pain and it must have been a peaceful passing - not that that changes anything in the slightest about what's happened, or makes it any the less bearable.

If I can help in any way, please do let me know. {{{{{{{{{{Jackie}}}}}}}}}}

Thanks, Lou.

Dad had a lot of health problems, including heart, but had seemed really well recently. My sister and I saw him the day before it happened (we went round every couple of weeks or so to clean the house for him) and he was fine. We left him sitting in his favourite chair with a selection of brochures, planning holidays. (He loved planning holidays so I know where I get that trait from.) My sister, brother-in-law and myself found him, so, yes, we know it was a very peaceful passing. He just looked like he was asleep. I think he went the way he would've wanted. Which ... will be a comfort in due time.

I'm so sorry! I really feel for you and the rest of the family. *hugs*

The waiting between the death and the funeral is awful. If there is paperwork and financial stuff to sort out, throw yourself into dealing with that - it helps a bit.

Thanks. *hugs back*

My sister is the executor, so she's sorting out most of the paperwork and financial stuff. The whole family are all kind of being our own support system, which helps a lot.

Hi Jackie,

You did tell me this by email, but again - I'm so sorry. And I'm glad that if it had to happen, it was peaceful. My dad was sick for months with pancreatic cancer and ended in a palliative care unit just after Christmas. I wish he could have gone as peacefully as yours did, but losing a parent is nevr good. :-( Give my love to your Mum.

Thanks, Sue. The peacefulness of it all is something I hold on to because I know not everyone gets that final grace.
